If there is one thing I’m sure aboutit is that a hundred years later we will still be reading newspapers. It is not that newspapers are a necessity.Even now some people get most of their news from television or radio. Many buy a paper only on Saturdays or Sundays. But for most peoplereading a newspaper has become a habit passed down from generation to generation.

The nature of what is news may change. What basically makes news is what affects our lives—the big political storiesthe coverage of the warsearthquakes and other disasterswill continue much the same.I think there will be more coverage of scientific researchthoughthe research happening in areas that may directly affect our liveslike genetic(基因) engineering. In the futureI think there will be more coverage of scientific explanations of why we feel as we do—as we develop a better understanding of how the brain operates and what our feelings really are.

It’s quite possible that in the next centurynewspapers will be transmitted electronically from the Fleet Street and printed out in our own home.In factI’m pretty sure how it will happen in the future. You will probably be able to choose from a menu and make up your own newspaper by picking out the things you want to read—saysportsinternational newsect.

I think people have got it wrong when they talk about competition between the different media. They actually feed_off each other. Some people once foresaw that television would kill off newspapersbut that hasn’t happened. What is read on the printed page lasts longer than pictures flashed up on a screen or sounds lost in the air.And as for the Internetit’s never really pleasant to read something just on a screen.

58What is the best title for the passage?

AThe Best Way to Get News

BThe Changes of Media

CMake Your Own Newspaper

DThe Future of Newspaper

59In the writer’s opinionin the future________.

Amore big political affairswars and disasters will make news

Bnewspapers will not be printed in publishing houses any longer

Cnewspapers will cover more scientific research

Dmore and more people will read newspapers

60What will probably be on in the newspaper made by yourself?

ASports and international news.

BA menu of important news.

CThe most important news.

DWhat you are interested in.

FWrite down why you want to quit

It’s never too late to quit smoking and there are many benefits no matter what age you are when you give up. Here are some tips to help you kick the habit:

61.__________________________

Once you give up smoking, there will be a lot of benefits. You will feel better, you will live longer, your family won’t suffer any more, you can save money, you will smell better, etc. You know what’s bad about smoking and you know what you will get by quitting. Put it on paper and read it every day.

62.__________________________

It is commonly believed that it is much easier to reduce the amount day by day than to stop it all at once. Ways to cut down the amount step by step include: how many cigarettes you wil smoke every day until your quit date, making the number you smoke smaller each day;buy only one pack at a time; change your brands so you don’t enjoy smoking as much; give your cirgrettes to someone else, so that you have to ask for them each time you want to.

63.__________________________

Think of the situations in which you are likely to be tempted to smoke, such as parties, drinking or going out for coffee. Try to avoid these situations in the early stages of your quitting program or try sitting in the non-smoking section at restaurants. Knowing ahead what to do with these situations can help you avoid being tempted to smoke.

64.___________________________

Ask your friends to support your decision to quit. Find another smoker who is trying to quit, and help each other with positive words. Find someone who have succeeded in quitting smoking and take him as an example. This will certainly add to your determination.

65.____________________________

Set up a plan for your rewards. Definitely reward yourself after the first day, and the second, and the third. Make them good rewards that you will look forward to:CDs,T-shirts, shoes, a dinner out at your favourite restaurant, a hotel stay, whatever you can afford.

 书面表达

One possible version

Western holidays such as Christmas, Valentines Day are getting more and more popular in China. Some Chinese people even get crazy on them. But at the same time, people seem to have less enthusiasm for our traditional festivals such as the Spring Festival and the Mooncake Festival. However, most people celebrate western holidays without knowing the meaning behind them. They just go shopping, hold parties and have fun.

In my opinion, the celebration of western holiday is a good way of learning the western cultures, which helps to promote understanding and communication between Chinese cultures and other cultures. Besides, the celebration can also make our life more interesting. However, we should make great efforts to preserve and enrich our own traditional culture.

Xkb1.comUnit4-5单元质量检测试题说明
