设计意图:旨在对学生阅读策略的指导,快速而准确地解读文本,这是本节课的教学重点。
具体安排:
1. Today we’ll learn a new text entitled “Life ON THE GO”. Please look at the screen,
What’s the meaning of “LIFE ON THE GO”?
(a fast-paced lifestyle where people are always on the go-----rushing from one place to another, doing many things at once, and using cellphones, portable computers, etc.)
2. Now If you are the writer, what do you want to write about in the text?
(cellphones, portable computers, cars,)
We’ll check later whether these things are covered/talked about in the text.
3. Skimming: Read the text as fast as you can to answer these 2 questions:
In what ways can cellphones be used?
Why do teenagers like cellphones so much?
4. Scanning: Read the text another time to make your choices:
5. Group work: Find out the main idea of each paragraph.
1) Wang Mei is an example of Chinese teenagers who have cellphones.
2) Cellphones can be used for many things.
3) Cellphones also cause problems.
4) There are several reasons why teenagers like cellphones.

活动1)举办“电视访谈秀”:学生分小组,分别扮演主持人、校长、家长和学生,对中学生使用手机发表不同的看法
活动 2)组织“设计手机并推销”活动
教师活动:组织“电视访谈秀”和“设计手机并推销”两个活动;介绍和提供活动所需的主要功能语言,如征求别人意见的常见英语表达法;调控活动过程、参与某些小组讨论、帮助基础较差学生;对活动效果予以检查和评估。
设计意图:巩固、拓展教学内容,培养学生的英语综合运用能力;且寓品德教育于英语语言教学之中;培养学生的批判性思维。
具体安排:
1. Individual work: Checking the title.
Are all the things we expected in the text?
The title should cover more things than just cellphones. So we may say that the title is too big.
And if you are asked to add more paragraphs to the text, what would you write about?
2. A TV Talk Show
We know that different people have different opinions about using cellphones in the middle school. ----their advantages and disadvantages. Now let’s have a TV talk show, in which there are 4 people. First decide who is the headmaster, who is the parent, who is the student, and who is the host/hostess. And then have a discussion within your group. In a few minutes, I will invite a group or two to the front to act out the talk show.

3. Let’s Design our own mobile phone!
Work in groups, design your favorite mobile phones and draw pictures. These papers can be used to help you. After that,
1) one student from Group A has to introduce and sell your cellphones to other groups.
2) If Group B buys a phone or some phones, a student in the group tells your classmates why.
3) Then another student in Group A who works as an assistant makes a report on how many phones have been sold, opinions from the customers, etc.
